About the Speak Easy Foundation

The Speak Easy Foundation was created to break the silence around oral cancer. Oral cancer doesn’t always announce itself loudly. Many diagnoses come late, when treatment is more invasive and life-altering. Patients face not only the physical challenges of treatment, but also the emotional isolation from difficulties with speaking and eating. Despite it’s impact, oral cancer receives far less attention and funding than many other cancers. The Speak Easy Foundation was formed to help change that by amplifying stories, advancing research, and supporting patients and their families through advocacy and relief from the financial burdens of treatment.

Founder’s Story

Life has a way of shifting your perspective when you least expect it. For me, that shift began in 2019, when I was diagnosed with tongue cancer. Since then, my journey has included a recurrence and a reality called oral field cancerization — meaning my mouth will always carry a higher level of risk. It’s meant learning, alongside my family, how to live with uncertainty while still holding on to hope.

This journey has shown me how much oral cancer treatments can reshape everyday life. Surgery, in particular, can change things most of us take for granted, like speaking and eating. Living with that reality has taught me to be grateful for the ordinary things, to choose joy when I can, and to stop letting the small stuff take up so much space.

Through it all, I am surrounded by love and support. Prayers, messages, quiet check-ins, and the steady presence of friends and family continue to carry me through moments I can’t always handle on my own. That support reminds me every day how powerful it is when people show up for one another — and how much strength there is in not being alone.

Out of that gratitude and perspective, The Speakeasy Foundation was born. Our mission is to support oral cancer research, advocate for better and less devastating treatment options, and ensure that every person facing this disease feels seen, supported, and heard. Every voice matters — and every story deserves space.
